Spiders and Bats

October 28th, 2007

With Halloween quickly approaching, our class recently completed a unit on spiders. We learned that spiders are not insects but are arachnids. They have two body parts, eight legs, and most have eight eyes. We identified the parts of a spider by using the overhead projector and a diagram for each student. Jeffery caught a spider in his bug catcher box that he got from the treasure box and planned to share it with the class, but it died before he could bring it. Elle brought a scorpion encased in a glass cylinder and we compared it to the diagram of the spider.  We discussed how it was different and the same. We learned alot about spiders and look forward to learning new facts about bats the week of Halloween.
